Specialist Lightening in Subiaco
Hand-painted, sun-kissed dimension with no harsh regrowth line. Low-tox lightening throughout, and a grow-out you can live with.
Colour that grows out softly
Balayage is painted on by hand rather than packed into foils, which is why it looks like the sun did it. There is no hard line where the colour starts, so it grows out softly instead of announcing itself six weeks later.
That soft grow-out is the practical argument for it. Where a full head of foils has you back in the chair every couple of months, balayage will often carry you three or four, which makes it the least demanding colour service we offer, and usually the kindest to your hair over a year.
We paint it using the same low-tox lightening and toning products we use for everything else, so the lift is gentler than a standard bleach and the tone stays true rather than turning brassy by week three.
What's involved
The variations we offer within specialist lightening, and what each one is for.
Classic balayage
Hand-painted lightness through the mid-lengths and ends, placed to catch the light around your face and follow the way you actually wear your hair.
Face-framing money piece
A brighter panel at the front. The smallest change with the biggest visible difference, and an easy first step if you have never lightened before.
Toning & gloss
The step that decides whether your blonde reads warm, cool or neutral. Refreshed between full appointments to keep brass at bay.
Balayage on dark hair
Lifting dark hair softly takes more than one visit if it is going to stay healthy. We will map that out with you rather than pushing it in a single sitting.
- 3–4 months
- between appointments, against six weeks for foils
- Freehand
- painted, not packed into foils, so no hard regrowth line
- Every time
- a conditioning treatment through the ends to finish
- Two visits
- to take dark hair pale, so it stays intact
Lightening without wrecking the hair
Lightening is the most demanding thing you can ask of hair, so what you lighten with matters more here than anywhere else.
Our organic lightening products work more slowly and more gently than a standard bleach. That means we watch it rather than leaving it, and we stop at the point where the hair is still strong, even if that means banking the rest of the lift for a second appointment.
Every balayage finishes with a treatment through the ends. Painted hair sits exposed at the lengths, and the treatment is what keeps it feeling like hair rather than straw.
How we workHow the appointment runs
So you know what you are walking into, and roughly how long to allow.
-
Consultation
Bring pictures. We will tell you which parts of them are achievable on your hair, at what pace, and what the grow-out will look like in three months.
-
Painting
Freehand, section by section, working with your natural fall and part rather than against it. This is the slow part and it is where the result is decided.
-
Toning
Once the lift is where we want it, a tone or gloss to set the exact shade of blonde, beige or caramel you asked for.
-
Treatment & style
A conditioning treatment through the lengths, then a blow wave so you leave seeing it the way it is meant to sit.
Specialist Lightening questions
The things people ask us most about this service.
How long does balayage take?
Allow three to four hours for a first appointment, longer on dark or very long hair. It is not a service to squeeze into a lunch break. Book a morning or use our Wednesday late night.
How often will I need it redone?
Most clients come back every three to four months, sometimes with a toner in between to keep the blonde honest. That is the main reason people move from foils to balayage.
Can I get balayage on dark brown or black hair?
Yes, though not to a pale blonde in one visit if you want to keep the hair intact. Dark hair usually takes two appointments spaced a few months apart. We will be straight with you about that at consultation rather than after.
Will it damage my hair?
Any lightening changes the hair. Using gentler low-tox products, stopping at the right point and finishing with a treatment is how we keep that change to something your hair recovers from. If your hair is already fragile we will say so and suggest a treatment plan first.
