Blow Waves, Styling & Upstyles

Blow waves that last, and upstyles for weddings, races and events that hold from photos through to the last song.

Hold that lasts the whole day

There are two reasons people book styling. One is the everyday sort: a blow wave before a meeting, a dinner, a weekend away, when you want to walk out looking like the best version of your usual self.

The other is the occasion sort, where the hair has to survive a full day of photographs, wind, hugging people and dancing. Those need different preparation, and the second kind needs a trial if the date matters.

Both run on organic styling product, which means hold without the helmet: nothing crunchy, nothing that goes sticky by the afternoon.

What's involved

The variations we offer within styling & upstyles, and what each one is for.

Blow waves

Smooth and sleek, or soft with movement through it. Book it on its own, or add it to any colour or treatment appointment.

Upstyles

From a relaxed twist to a fully structured style. Pinned so it holds through a long day rather than just a long lunch.

Occasion & event hair

Weddings, races, formals and milestone birthdays. Booked early, because Saturday mornings in season fill fast.

Trials

For weddings and anything you cannot afford to get wrong. We photograph the result so it can be repeated exactly on the day.

Hold without the build-up

Conventional styling products lean on heavy polymers and high-alcohol sprays. They hold, and they also leave hair dull, brittle and coated by the end of a big week.

Our Davines styling range gets the same hold from lighter ingredients. It brushes out at the end of the night instead of having to be scrubbed out.

That matters most in occasion hair, where the style is going in on top of hair that has usually just been coloured for the event. There is no sense protecting the hair all the way through the colour and then undoing it with the finish.

How we work

How the appointment runs

So you know what you are walking into, and roughly how long to allow.

  1. Brief

What the occasion is, what you are wearing, whether it needs to survive wind, and how you feel about your hair being off your face.

  2. Prep

Washed and dried with the finished style in mind. An upstyle wants different preparation from a smooth blow wave.

  3. The style

Built and pinned, checked from every angle including the back, which is the angle you never see and everyone else does.

  4. Set & photograph

Finished with organic hairspray and photographed for trials, so the day itself is a repeat rather than an improvisation.

Styling & Upstyles questions

The things people ask us most about this service.

How far ahead should I book for a wedding?

As early as you can. Saturday mornings through spring and autumn book out months in advance. Bridal parties in particular need the diary blocked well ahead.

Do I need a trial?

For a wedding, we strongly recommend it. For a race day or a party, usually not. A trial lets us test how your hair holds and gives us photographs to work from on the day.

Should I wash my hair before an upstyle?

Day-old hair holds better than freshly washed. If you want it washed here, book it in, and do not turn up with it wet.

Can you do the whole bridal party?

Yes, subject to the diary. Get in touch with the date, the number of people and the time you need to be finished by, and we will tell you honestly whether we can do it properly.
